Lower Secondary Music Programme
The Lower Secondary Music Programme in Hougang Secondary School aims to:
- Nurture the joy of music learning and making through the Experience-Concept-Application (ECA) pedagogical approach
- Inculcate the values of grit, respect, ingenuity, trustworthiness and teamwork through collaborative and self-directed learning
- Deepen their appreciation for music through the process of active listening, responding to music and also performing and creating music
- Further engage students in the analyzing and evaluating of musical works and performances through multimedia modes
Through the different modes of learning, students will be equipped with the necessary musical skills and knowledge of instrumental playing (piano keyboard and guitar), technological skills in song arrangements and songwriting.
They will be assessed through various modes of formative and summative assessments such as worksheets, reflections, group work and performances.
Secondary 2 & 3s Enrichment
Secondary 2 and 3 students can look forward to a range of activities, such as songwriting workshop, music arrangement workshop, arts concerts and theatre plays.
Music Arrangement Workshop
Our Secondary 2s and 4s students who has shown keen interest in Music are given the opportunity to be involved in a 18-week programme in song arrangement. Under the Artist(s)-in-School Scheme, we have engaged local musicians to impart their arrangement skills to our students.
Songwriting Workshop
Our Secondary 2 students went through a 15-week programme where professionals from the local Music production industry share their skills and techniques in writing song lyrics, composing melody and the recording of their compositions using Digital Audio Workstation such as GarageBand
Concerts and Plays
In collaboration with Esplanade, students are given the opportunity to attend fully-funded concerts under the Keppel Nights Programme.
